In the book there are many important characters but I have narrowed them down to 3 very intriguing candidates.
One of who is Malencia Vale (Cia for short) of the Five Lakes Colony. She is 16 years old, the youngest in her grade. She has light brown hair and warm eyes. Her determination and ability is the reason why she has been nominated by the testing. Her caring and leader qualities are the reasons why many are drawn to her.
Cia lives with her parents and her four older brothers.
The oldest brother Zeen is tall, blond and very smart. Hart and Win are two years older than Cia and the last brother is Harmin. Her father has participated in the testing and frequently has nightmares of his experiences. The one piece of advice her father gives her is "Trust no one". Her family is gifted in genetically altering plants and growing them, Cia on the other hand does not have the same gift. Mechanical things she fixes. Plants she kills.
The second person is named Tomas Endress from Five Lakes Colony. He is Cia's "handsome" childhood friend, his grey eyes and one dimpled smile as well as shared history allow an alliance to be made. However there may be a little spark of something more than a simple friendly alliance. Surely Cia can trust Tomas.
The last character is Will from the Madison Colony. Will has green eyes and brown hair. Will has a twin brother called Gill and the only difference is that Gill's hair is shorter than his hair. Will has an optimistic and upbeat personality and soon become friends with the Five Lakes Colony candidates in the middle of the first challenge set by the testing. Will is accademically stronger than his brother in history, English and languages.
Keep your friends close and keep your enemies closer. Isn't that what they say? But how close is too close when they may become and the same?
